GREEN HOUSE

After lots of hard work by multiple Lakota teams over multiple semesters, and with the help of our partners, a greenhouse was constructed on the Oglala Lakota Campus during the 2020 spring semester. Our partners at OLC (Oglala Lakota College) are gearing up for the greenhouse to be operational this fall. This greenhouse will be a great source of fresh produce on campus and will serve as a place to learn about gardening and Lakota culture for students.

The team started with two sub groups working towards designing and building a greenhouse and cultural center on the Oglala Lakota College campus in Rapid City South Dakota.  The goal of this project was to create a greenhouse and cultural center that would help the Lakota people teach members of their community about traditional plants and culture.  The first year of the project was spent building relations among the project partners and establishing long lasting connections.  Initial research was also done during this first year of the project.

In 2019 the team received funding through the AIHEC as a grant to begin the development of the greenhouse. They were able to purchase a greenhouse kit that was shipped to OLC and finalize interior components such as Beds, tables, Shelving, and Irrigation. During the 2020 spring semester, the greenhouse was successfully constructed on OLC's campus.
